Interest Meeting on Monday, October 3rd from 2:25-4:25PM in Room 142
Do you like to travel? Do you like making things with your hands? Do you like baking and cooking? Do you like participating in group activities? How do you feel about doing good things for the community? The FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is a very active group of FACS students who enjoy each others company while participating in various activities. Our chapter also competes in leadership activities within Fairfax County, at the state level in Virginia Beach, and at the national level in San Diego this past summer. We make yummy foods, play fun games, create neat items like pillows, and organize community service projects. And, we host the snack cart after-school and the school concession stand at many school/community events. FCCLA is open to students who are currently enrolled in FACS, have previously taken FACS or are scheduled to take FACS in the Spring.
Come find out where you can fit in!
Global Environmentalists – Costa Rica
Part of Fairfax County’s International Study Travel Program (ISTP)
Open to FCPS Middle School Students in grades 7-8 (as of Sept. 2016)
Travel Dates: April 8 – 16, 2017 (Spring Break)
Focus: Soak up Costa Rica’s natural beauty and amazing biodiversity from every angle. Students will explore the ecosystems of the Tortugero canals, learn about conservation efforts in National Parks, and hike the Poas Volcano to discover natural phenomenon like hot springs and geysers. The Global Environmentalists will examine how Costa Rica’s efforts to establish national parks and reserves is one of the world’s most progressive to save the earth’s endangered rainforests. Students will discuss and reflect on how a community’s attachment, connection, and feeling towards the land may differ abroad. Experiencing this Central American country first-hand will inspire a lasting respect for the environment.
